"The Night of the Prickly Pear"

The Night of the Prickly Pear Works on paper by Sibyll Kalff Abaton Annex @ Sweet Priscilla April 6th-May 3rd, opening reception April 6th, 7-9pm The Night of the Prickly Pear is a series of India ink drawings, images of overripe prickly pear cacti by German artist/musician Sibyll Kalff. The complete series, which is comprised of 1000 works, was originally displayed at Galerie Thor Zimmermann in Cologne. Although the current exhibition of these drawings is limited to a dozen, little is lost in the paring down. Regardless of quantity, The Night of the Prickly Pear retains its flavor. This will be Sibyll Kalff's second exhibition via Abaton. Last year her Little Books, another series vast in number, this one rather self-explanatory, was shown at Abaton Garage. While differing in form, Kalff's books, music, prickly pears and many other editions share an intense mythical charge and a deeply earthbound presence. The Night of the Prickly Pear will be on display from April 6th through May 3rd at Sweet Priscilla Café, 530 Jersey Ave in Jersey City. Sweet Priscilla is acting as an annex to Abaton Garage www.abatongarage.com , an art gallery on the city's West Side. You're cordially invited to attend the opening reception April 6th from 7-9PM. Refreshments will be served. A musical performance by singer/songwriter Sharon Van Etten will begin at 8:00.
